Nazim Ozel
In 1976 he received University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Graduate School Fellowship and joined the graduate school. America and the graduate school brought a new experimental era to Ozel’s art. Nazim is a classically trained and an experimental musician. He plays a broad range of Eastern and Western instruments (wind, bowed, plucked) in both microtonal and fixed tonal systems. Master on Turkish ancient flute the NEY. He invented “The Semi Civilized Tree”, “The Tree” and “The Laughing Flute”. He is also the inventor of “Free tonal Music”. During the graduate school years Ozel extensively experimented in many different directions: painting, sculpture, music, interdisciplinary art, installation, combined media, mixed media event and installation performances, bridging the gap in between these in a personal aesthetic and philosophical framework.
