TEACHING (K-5)

Ozel has been working with children throughout California and has touched  the artıstic souls of more than 4000 students. His teachıng involves basic academic art education along with his own concepts and techniques. His students learn to create drawings, paıntings, and mixed media works  using a broad range of media such as watercolor, acrylic, oil pastel, tempera, charcoal, color pencils, ceramic paints, wood, glue, paper, and found objects..

Ozel’s teaching method focuses on the student’s understanding and application of the concepts and techniques of basic academic art such as line, value, texture, shape, form, composition, color, color theory, tinting, blending, mixing, shading, abstraction, realism, and modernism.

The students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills as they work. They learn to observe and use vocabulary to describe, analyze and interpret what they see. Ozel uses a hands on approach and guides students as they develop their fine motor skills  using tools such as,  scissors, rulers, hammers, pliers, hand saw, drills, etc with a wide variety of media.

In 2015 Ozel received an award for his exemplary teaching. A film maker Chris O’Conner was intrigued by his extensive teaching career. He created a short film about Ozel and his students work. The film, called “Like Tomatoes” was selected for the opening show at the Digicom Film Festival in Palm Springs, California and was also featured in the 2015 Palm Springs International Short Film Festival.
